In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his

commitment to service to others, Mayor McKinley L. Price, Delegate Marcia Price, and Sheriff Gabe Morgan partnered with the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank to host the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Food Drive on January 16th.
Organizations, churches and communities were encouraged to collect food, to spread the word about the event, and invite their members to participate. Because of their tremendous outreach effort the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank received more than $1,150 in monetary donations that are the equivalent of 4,596 meals. The food donations collected during the drive equals additional 6,111 meals. Together, monetary

donations and food contributions will provide 10,707 total meals to those in need.
Newport News Mayor, McKinley L. Price said, “As we know Dr. King believed in service to others. He brought historic change to America and transformed the lives of many. Dr. King had a desire and willingness to serve. He breathed life into his words with his actions. By feeding the needy with the results of your contributions and donations, you are carrying on Dr. King’s legacy of service to others, and we thank you.”
