According to the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, for
any weather-related emergency, make sure you have an updated
emergency kit equipped with flashlights, a first aid kit, a 3-day supply of food and water, and more. Make a
family plan that establishes meeting places, designates emergency contacts and records medical information to prepare for any emergency.
It is important that you stay informed. Listen to local media for weather-related information and instructions from emergency officials. You can also download the Ready Virginia app for your mobile device. The app is free for
iPhone® and
Android™ devices, and provides emergency planning and instant notification of weather hazards. More winter weather readiness information is available from the
Virginia Department of Emergency Management.
The
National Weather Service page can be customized for weather for your city and the Virginia Department of Transportation offers
