Achievable Dream Academy Students Tour City Department

Posted on January 4, 2017 at 8:03 AM by Communications Department

The Newport News Department of Human Resources is partnering with the Newport News Public Schools (NNPS) Achievable Dream Academy to facilitate student Ach_Dream_Tour_SCvisits to City departments. The program’s goal is to teach students about City operations and administration.

The Department of Vehicle & Equipment Services hosted NNPS Seniors Preston Walker and Quincy White who were accompanied by Pervis Blake, Director of Operations and Student Services for the Achievable Dream Academy. The students toured the City’s vehicle services facility located at the Oyster Point Operations Center where nearly 2,000 City vehicles and equipment are maintained including police and fire vehicles, refuse trucks, and all types of public works equipment. The students learned about some of the important components of vehicle fleet management including work flow, fueling, recycling, warehousing, depreciation, and outcome measures.
