Celebrating the Ella Fitzgerald Centennial
On Sunday, January 15th, come join the fun in the newest

jazz pop-up club in town! From 7:00 - 11:00 PM, visit Ella's Place at 711 Thimble Shoals Boulevard in City Center in Newport News and enjoy a performance by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra (VSO) Jazz Ensemble. Following their performance, guests can dance to tunes on the Lindy Hop dance floor.
Throughout 2017, during the anniversary year of her 100th birthday, the City will honor the life and music of Newport News’ own, Ella Fitzgerald – “The First Lady of Song” with the
Ella Fitzgerald Centennial Celebration. The opening of Ella’s Place is only one of many events that will take place during the year. Tickets to the event are $10 and can be

The VSO Jazz Orchestra is comprised of 17 of the finest jazz and contemporary musicians in the region. In the tradition of the great jazz orchestras of the world they perform music of the “Great American Songbook” arranged by the greatest arrangers of our time and times past to include Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Quincy Jones, Bob Florence, Bob Mintzer, Gordon Goodwin and Hampton Roads’ own Tommy Newsome to name only a few.
