The Newport News Police Department is committed to providing youth with positive role models and sharing information about career opportunities in the law enforcement field.

This was the case recently when NNPD’s Investigations Bureau hosted 19 students from the Hampton Roads Academy’s Forensic Science class. Class teachers coordinated the information exchange session to provide an opportunity for the students to learn about their top three fields of interest in the law enforcement profession from experts in the field. Members from the Criminal Investigations and Organized Crime Divisions spoke with the students about their job responsibilities and career opportunities.
The police department got a chance to become teachers and instructors and share their tenured experiences with an interested group of kids. This positive exchange of information between the students and law enforcement personnel gave the youth insight into the Newport News Police Department’s investigative areas and possible future professions in the field.
