The North District Holiday Food Drive Committee will host their 15th Annual Holiday Food Drive now known as One City Celebrations Holiday Food Drive. The event that feeds disadvantaged, deserving families during the winter holidays is slated to take place December 14-19 at the Denbigh Community Center. In the past five years, the committee has served from 800 to 1,000 families and is expecting to exceed 1,000 families this year.

In partnership with Newport News Parks and Recreation, New Genesis New Beginnings, and Peninsula Worklink, the event includes a free spay/neuter clinic, job readiness seminar and fair, and a food drive day party. They are also hosting a bicycle give-a-way for students with a GPA of 3.0 or greater. On the last day of the celebration, the committee will distribute food to families. Attendees receive a turkey with items needed to complete the holiday meal, snacks, beverages, frozen meats, and more. The only requirement for attendees to participate in all events is non-perishable food item(s) or donation.

Employers who would like to participate in the One City Job Fair should contact Lisa Taylor, at Peninsula Worklink, at 766-4915 or LTaylor@pwlink.org. The food drive is supported by Full Circle Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit making 100% of all donations tax deductible. Monetary contributions may be made payable to Full Circle Foundation, P O Box 14037, Newport News, VA 23608. For questions or additional information, please contact Councilwoman Sharon P.
