The Mariners’ Museum Community Day for Hampton Roads Residents

Posted on November 28, 2016 at 8:11 AM by Communications Department

MonitorJoin The Mariners’ Museum from 9 to 5 PM Saturday, December 3 as they extend a specially priced Community Day for Hampton Roads residents.  Admission is only $5 per person for residents of Hampton Roads during The Mariners’ Community Day and children 3 and under are free.

Take this opportunity to explore the Polynesian Voyagers exhibit that features the navigational skills of the Polynesian navigators who relied on their knowledge of waves, winds, stars, and nature instead of modern instruments.   Or… visit the USS Monitor Center, named the official repository for the Monitor Collection by NOAA in 1987. The collection consists of over 200 tons of artifacts recovered from the iconic Civil War ironclad. You can watch the conservation of the turret, steam engine, and gun carriages, a process that can take years to complete in order to preserve the items for future generations.

The museum is located at 100 Museum Drive in Newport News. This discounted admission price is only available during Community Day and no other discounts apply. Valid ID required. For more information, call 757-596-2222 or visit The Mariners’ Museum website.
