City Offices To Close For Thanksgiving Holiday

All Newport News City offices will be closed on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. This includes City Hall, City offices at City Center at Oyster Point, Newport News Waterworks' customer service offices, the Public Works Operations Center, and both locations of the Treasurer's and Commissioner of the Revenue's offices.
Newport News Public Libraries will also be closed on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25 for the Thanksgiving holiday; however, they will observe normal operating hours Saturday and Sunday.

Garbage, recycling, and bulk waste collections that would normally take place on Thursday, November 24, will take place on Friday, November 25. Normal collection days will resume the week following the holiday. The Newport News Resource Recovery Center (i.e., the landfill) will be closed on Thursday, November 24, Friday, November 25, and Saturday, November 26.

The Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter, which serves the residents of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson and York County, will be closed for adoptions on Thursday, November 24 but will be open on Friday, November 25. NOTE: The shelter will still be open for owner surrenders, stray drop-offs, and owner re-claims from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
