Newport News Public Libraries Offers Social Media Workshop and Shopping

Posted on November 9, 2016 at 9:41 AM by Communications Department

If you think the Newport News Public Library Library1_SCSystem (NNPLS) is only good for reading and research you are out of the loop. NNPLS offers a variety of workshops and events for all ages. This month there will be quite a few opportunities for residents to experience some of the events NNPLS offers.

For those who have a business or plan to start a business, Main Street Library will host a Social Media For Businesses workshop with Christopher Newport University Professor, Dr. Nicole Emmelhainz on November 12 from 2 PM to 5 PM. The workshop will teach participants how to promote a small business or non-profit organization using social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. The event is free but due to limited seating requires registration.

Grissom Library is hosting two events this month that will help with holiday shopping. On November 12th from 10 AM to 4 PM and 13th from 1 PM to 4 PM there will be a Friends of the Library Book Sale. Residents can shop for discounted hardcover and paperback books, books on CD and children’s books. Children’s books will be half price. All proceeds from the book sale will support programs provided by NNPL. Another great event hosted by Newport News Public Library is the Loosely Knit Craft Sale. Residents can shop for handmade craft items on Friday, November 18th and Saturday, November 19th from 10 AM to 3 PM. Members of Grissom Library’s Loosely Knit Group will have an array of hats, scarves, mittens, baby blankets and sweaters, afghans, ornaments and more for sale.

To learn more about the events or to register for the workshop visit Newport News Public Library’s website or visit the libraries directly.
