City Offices to Close For Veterans Day

Newport News City offices & libraries will be closed on Friday, November 11th, in observance of the Veterans Day holiday. This includes City Hall, City offices 11-4-VictoryArch_Soldier_SCat City Center at Oyster Point, Newport News Waterworks' customer services offices, the Public Works Operations Center, and both locations of the Treasurer's Office and Commissioner of the Revenue's Office (City Hall and Denbigh). The Recovery Operations Center on Atkinson Way will also be closed on Veterans Day but open on Saturday, November 12th.

Garbage, recycling, and bulk waste collections for the holiday week will take place as usual.

The Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter, which serves the residents of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson and York County, will be open on Friday, November 11th. NOTE: The shelter is open daily from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. for owner surrenders, stray drop-offs, and owner re-claims. If staff is not available at the front desk for any of these needs, simply call the number on the door and a staff member will be happy to assist.

The annual Veterans’ Day ceremony will be held 11 A.M. November 11 at the Victory Arch in downtown Newport News. The ceremony is free and the public is invited to attend.
