Last week, the Newport News Department of Development
had the opportunity to show off the City to more than a dozen representatives from the Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance. The interactive session provided these state and regional economic development allies up to the minute information about the City’s numerous assets and various exciting projects underway. Formatted as an electronic familiarization tour, or FAM Tour, entitled “Getting to Know Newport News,” Development staff showcased a number of companies, commercial sites and properties, and business-friendly programs that the City and the Newport News Economic Development
Authority have to offer.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance are both very important components of the City’s business expansion and retention efforts. Having the chance to meet face-to-face and discuss Newport News’ attributes, business climate, and targeted industry sectors with a large group of regional and state economic development professionals was an effective way to ensure that those organizations are fully informed of all that Newport News has to offer businesses.
