223 pounds of prescription drugs collected

On October 22, the Newport News Police drugTB1_SCDepartment and the Drug Enforcement Administration gave the public its 12th opportunity in six years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs. A total of 233 pounds of prescription drugs was collected during the take-back event – nine pounds from South Precinct, 119 pounds from Central Precinct, 57 pounds from North Precinct, 46 pounds from Fort Eustis and two pounds from the USS Abraham Lincoln.

The Newport News Police Department’s Organized Crime Division spearheaded participation with the help of Master Police Detective Jeffrey Turlington who served as the liaison between the Police Department and the DEA. Detective Turlington also orchestrated the efforts in each of the City’s three precincts, as well as Fort Eustis and the USS Abraham Lincoln.
