The City has received over 1500 six inch

potted fall annuals that are being installed in public greenways, parks and facilities throughout Newport News. A diverse mixture of Violas, Pansies, Snapdragons, Dianthus, and Dusty Miller are being planted at key intersections, parks and facilities across the city like Hilton Village at Main St., Denbigh Community Center, and Riverview Park to name a few.
Plant selections are made to suit various site conditions like sun versus shade, unique color and texture combinations, and for some locations, plants that are more “deer resistant.” Parks, Recreation & Tourism provides seasonal color plantings twice annually, once for the Fall/Winter and again for the Spring/Summer seasons. These cyclical changes in our natural world allow us to enjoy a new season of beauty.
To be safe, move any tender houseplants indoors beginning now. The first frost date for our region averages around November 11th. To learn more about plants and seasonal flowers visit
