Healthy Families & Parents as Teachers Community Advisory Board Host Event.
From April 13- April 27 there will be a display of colorful, spinning pinwheels, silhouettes of

children, and prevention posters next to the Peninsula Health Department reminding passersby about child abuse prevention. The Newport News Healthy Families & Parents as Teachers Community Advisory Board will be hosting the Annual Silent Children’s Garden at Boulevard Park on the corners of Warwick and J. Clyde Morris Boulevard to recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The Silent Children’s Garden will have a special opening ceremony Wednesday, April 13th, at 6:00 PM. Activities will include vocals by Hampton Roads Academy’s Tradewinds Chorus, a beautiful pinwheel art display and contest by Parks & Recreation’s After-School program. Newport News Mayor McKinley Price, elected officials, and community members will participate.
The pinwheels on display in the garden serve as the national symbol to represent hope, health, and safety for children. To learn more about the pinwheel project and child abuse prevention in Virginia, please visit
