With Spring Break upon us and the summer months quickly approaching, a reminder of the curfew hours is in order. In Newport News, kids under the age of 18 should not be out in public without a parent or guardian Sunday through Thursday between the hours of 10 PM and 5 AM the following day. On Friday and Saturday, the curfew hours are 11 PM – 5 AM. If a juvenile is found to be in violation of the curfew ordinance, he/she will be taken to the Curfew Center where officers will attempt to locate a parent or guardian to pick up the juvenile.
The Newport News Police Department’s continued enforcement of the city’s curfew is to help reduce overall crime committed by juvenile offenders and decrease the number of juvenile crime victims. As always, officers will continue to enforce this code during Spring Break and throughout the year. Parents are encouraged to have their children adhere to the curfew and to know where they are at all times.
