Storm Debris Cleanup

Posted on October 12, 2016 at 8:23 AM by Communications Department

Over the next few days, many residents will be cleaning up debris as a result of the recent storm. Please remember that tree limbs, shrubbery and other woody waste must be cut into sections no larger than 6 feet in length and 6 inches in diameter. Yard waste, StormDebris_SCsuch as leaves and small clippings can either be placed in your green trash cart or in clear plastic bags for collection with other bulk items. Be sure to separate bulk items from loose vegetative waste. To ensure that bulk waste can be safely collected, please place it away from vehicles, poles, mail boxes, and other obstructions adjoining your property, and do not place it under low handing utility wires. Newport News solid waste customers can also bring debris to the Recovery Operations Center located at 550 Atkinson Way. More details on the Bulk Waste Program can be found on the City’s website.

Collection crews may be running slightly behind schedule this week due to the volume of waste being collected. Residents should place waste curbside on their regularly scheduled day and leave it until collected.

If your bulk waste was not collected, please contact the City’s 311 Center at 923-2311 or 311@nnva.gov. For more information on trash, bulk, and recycle pickup, visit the Department of Public Works Solid Waste Division website.
