The Newport News Police Department, Newport News Sheriff’s Department, and Christopher Newport University Police Department invite citizens to join them as they raise awareness for Special Olympics Virginia. This year’s Law Enforcement Torch Run is Monday, November 7 at 2 PM beginning inside the Pomoco Stadium at Christopher Newport University.

The event is free and open to the public. This year’s event features a 1 mile, 2 mile, 3 mile, or 4 mile Torch run. So, if you aren’t a seasoned runner, don’t worry, there’s a course for you!
The Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1981 in Wichita, Kansas, and today Torch Run events are held in all 50 states and in more than 40 countries. These events have grown to become one of the largest fundraisers for Special Olympics. In Virginia, the Torch Run includes more than 2,000 law enforcement officers from over 300 agencies all running for one common go – to raise awareness for the Special Olympics.
