Newport News Participates in National Fire Prevention Week

Posted on October 7, 2016 at 8:22 AM by Communications Department

Each year, the Newport News Fire Department participates in National Fire Prevention Week by hosting an Open House that provides demonstrations, kid friendly activities, station tours, apparatus displays, emergency preparedness lessons, and our mascot, Sparky Dog. FirePrevention_SCThis year, the Open House will be held on Saturday, October 15th, from 11 AM - 4 PM at the Oyster Point Fire Station located at 685 Oyster Point Road.

The Fire Prevention Week theme is “Don’t Wait—Check the Date!” This is a reminder for everyone to replace their smoke alarms every 10 years. The Newport News Fire Department has a Smoke Alarm Installation program and can supply a working smoke alarm for any homeowner in Newport News. Newport News homeowners can call the Smoke Alarm Hotline at 757-247-8888 or fill out an on-line request form.
