Newport News Fire Department – Providing Lifesaving Services for our Youngest Citizens

Posted on October 4, 2016 at 8:36 AM by Communications Department

Multiple Child Safety Seat Community Check events across Virginia determined that a large majority of Child Passenger Safety seats are installed incorrectly. Newport News Fire Department is working to change that by offering the Child Passenger Safety seat inspection program.
Recently, 15 Newport News firefighter/medics attended the 32 hour certification and training course to be qualified to lead the program. These trained firefighter/medics are now able to provide lifesaving information for families in the city unaware of the hazards children face from improperly installed child safety seats. During the program, family members learn the proper installation techniques to keep their children safe.

Anyone interested in having their child passenger safety seat inspected and wish to receive this lifesaving training can contact Newport News Fire Administration at 757-975-5030 or the Newport News Fire Department Public Education office at 757-247-2332 to schedule an appointment. The safety program is sponsored and managed by the Virginia Department of Health.
