Step up to the Plate and Help a Four-Legged Friend Find a Home
Spring can be a challenging time for animal shelters.

The weather is nicer; people tend to let their animals outside more, and of course – it marks the start of kitten season! As a result, the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter, located at 5483 Jefferson Avenue in Newport News, is starting a new Grand Slam Challenge in the month of April. Through various events and outreach, the shelter wants to knock its old adoption record out of the park, and get the most adoptions in one month since the shelter’s opening in January of 2015! What is the number to beat? A whopping 146 adoptions!
The shelter states they know it will be a challenge, but one right on time as even more animals will soon be coming in the doors. Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter is the newest open admission shelter on the Peninsula and is the shelter receiving all strays and owner surrenders from Newport News, Hampton, York County, and Poquoson. As a result, the shelter will need more people to adopt and more people to spread the word about adoption. The shelter is asking citizens to help hit a home run with this challenge and get these animals home.
