On Saturday, October 8, 2016, from 9 AM to 4 PM a girls camp will be held at An Achievable Dream Middle & High School, 5720 Marshall Avenue in Newport News. All girls must register before the event.
Girls Camp is recruiting 100 girls, ages 13-18, from Newport News to participate in this free event. Application deadline is Monday, October 3. Selection is on a first-come first-served basis. To register, please call the 757-560-9513.
Supported by Womens Empowerment Development, Inc., Transitions Family Violence Services, Good Seed Good Ground, and Girl Scouts of Colonial Coast, Girls Camp is designed to engage middle and high school girls to build self-esteem, learn essential life skills and encourage them to be leaders of tomorrow. “The idea came from the phone calls and office visits we receive from women ages 25 and over, in distressful situations throughout the year,” said Vice Mayor Tina L. Vick. “We need to go into the community to have more prevention.”
