September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Newport News Public Libraries join with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that every student has the most important school supply of all—a free library card.

Newport News Public Library System offers dozens of free programs for all ages every month. Just this month, children’s programs include PAWS to Read and LEGO Club, for teens there are programs like Skywatch and Animanga Club, and for adults, there is a “War in Film” series, an author talk, and computer courses—just to name a few.
In addition to dozens of great programs each month, Newport News Public Library System offers access to a variety of print and digital resources, including eServices like eBooks, eMagazines, eAudiobooks and free music downloads that can be accessed in person or online. Resources at any of the Newport News library branches are available to anyone who has a library card. Throughout the course of September, NNPLS is offering incentives to encourage everyone to get a free library card. Children and teens ages 17 and younger are eligible to win prizes by either showing an existing library card or applying for a new one. The child or teen must be present to participate in this promotion and some restrictions may apply. For more information, contact any of the
Newport News Public Library branches.
