Utilizes Technology to Welcome Attendees
Newport News City Manager Jim Bourey was
invited to attend and present at the 2016 International Symposium on Smart City at Chengdu, China, held earlier this week. The theme of the Symposium was A City Built on Information Technology and Wisdom and although unable to attend the Symposium, Bourey used technology, in keeping with the Smart Cities concept, to provide a digital welcome and his presentation to participants. Bourey shared that “Anything is possible. The technology that can be applied to the way cities do business is virtually limitless. As with our lives, the biggest limitation … is our imagination.”
The Symposium brought together an array of authors and topics from many countries and provided a forum for the research institutions, academics and practitioners of public administration to exchange ideas and update their professional knowledge for further developments in building a Smart City. A Smart City uses digital technology and information and communication technologies to improve efficiencies within the city, meet citizens’ needs and respond to future challenges.
