Kick-Off Meeting September 20th
Recently, the City of Newport News and the Newport News Redevelopment and Housing Authority were awarded a $500,000 Choice Neighborhood Initiative Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. On Tuesday, September 20, Housing and Urban Development representatives are coming Newport News for the first site visit for the grant. After speaking with grant recipients, partners, officials, resident leaders, and stakeholders, the representatives will be given a tour of the Marshall – Ridley Choice Neighborhood and end the day with a community meeting.

The Transformation Plan Kick-Off Community Meeting for the Marshall – Ridley Choice Neighborhood is Tuesday, September 20 from 6:00 – 7:30 PM at the Dunbar-Erwin Elementary School (Achievable Dream Academy), 726 16th Street in Newport News. The meeting is free and open to the public. Light refreshments and child care are provided.
This is a community and citizen driven process. Everyone is invited and encouraged to get involved in creating a transformation plan for the Marshall – Ridley Choice Neighborhood that will take it from a neighborhood of concentrated poverty into a neighborhood of opportunity.
