Newport News Public Schools will welcome over 28,000 students to the new school year on September 6. This new beginning brings the excitement of many possibilities for students, families and staff as they work together to ensure that students are college, career and citizen-ready.
Orientations and Open Houses Scheduled
Where is my child's bus stop? How can I join the PTA? Is there an after-school program? The answers to these and other questions will be available during Newport News Public Schools open houses scheduled for August 31 through September 2.
All early childhood centers, elementary schools and middle schools are hosting open houses, and each middle school and high school is holding an orientation for new students. Students and family members may meet teachers and school administrators, visit classrooms, participate in tours, and learn more about the curriculum, and student clubs and organizations.
· Sixth-Grade Student Orientation will be held from 1 to 3 PM on Wednesday, August 31, at all middle schools. Bus transportation will be provided for students.
· Middle School Open Houses for students and families will held from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday, August 31.
· Early Childhood Center and Elementary School Open Houses for students and families will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, September 1.
· Ninth-Grade and New Student Orientation will be held from 8 to 11:30 AM on Friday, September 2, at all high schools. Bus transportation will be provided for students.
