Tax free weekend gave parents a chance to save money on school supplies and now many community organizations are ensuring that students have exactly

what they need when they return to school next month. There are multiple events happening in the next weeks to not only distribute free school supplies but to also connect families with valuable community resources. The events will have representatives from various community organizations and City Departments, food, games, and plenty of entertainment.
These are a few happening around the City:
• August 13th, Councilwoman Sharon Scott and others host the 2016
Community Fest Back 2 School Celebration at Denbigh Community Center, 11 AM – 2 PM
•August 14th, Delegate Marcia Price hosts a
Community Town Hall and Fair 3 – 6 PM, Heritage High School, 5800 Marshall Ave
• August 20th,
Impact 2016 – Backpack giveaway and Community Care Day at South Morrison Family Education Center, 10 AM – 1 PM
• August 20th, Newport News Public School’s
Stand Together for Youth event at Todd Stadium from 10 AM – 1 PM
• August 20th, Councilwoman Saundra Cherry and partners for the
Back to School Community Fest 2016 at the James A. Field House,1 – 3 PM
