Excuse the Mess!
Although the sign posted in front of Grissom Library states the job title is “Toilet Renovations”, toilets are just a small part of this exciting $178,000 remodel. The face of libraries is changing—people expect libraries to offer modern public meeting spaces and the newest technology. In attempt to address these changes, Newport News Public Library System’s Grissom Library is currently undergoing renovations.
Both the public and staff restrooms are receiving total makeovers and the library will soon boast a new and improved public meeting area. During the renovations, expected to be completed this May, the library plans to remain open despite a few short-term inconveniences such as using temporary restrooms, entering and exiting the building through a different door, and not being able to utilize the meeting room.

The library
located in the Denbigh area of Newport News was built in the 1970s and will soon be celebrating its 50th anniversary. Although this well-loved library was state-of-the-art five decades ago,
it’s now showing its age and is in need of remodeling to make it work for more modern times.
As the renovation progresses, NNPLS is posting photos of the remodel on their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/nnlibrary. For more information contact Newport News Public Library System’s administrative office at 757-926-1350.
