During the months of August and September, Mennowood Retirement Community in partnership with the Newport News Police Department to host Senior Safety seminar

s that are free and open to the public. Newport News Police Department Economic Crimes Detective Dinah Balthis is the presenter at each of the seminars and will cover a wide range of topics every senior should hear!
The first Senior Safety seminar is Wednesday, August 17 and the second is scheduled for Wednesday, August 24 from 10 -11 AM. The two-part session includes information on telephone scams and fraud, identity theft and elder financial exploitation, and personal safety discussion covering topics such as bullying, self-protection, carrying money away from home and how to respond to panhandlers.
On September 20 from 5:30 - 6:30 PM, Detective Balthis is presenting “Baby Boomer University”. This presentation includes information on how seniors can stay in their homes and protect themselves.
