Newport News is currently engaged in a planning process to become less vulnerable to natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes, winter storms and man-made hazards, and we need your comments. In conjunction with the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission,
an online survey has been developed to provide an opportunity for citizens to share opinions and participate in the ongoing mitigation planning process. The information provided helps better understand hazard concerns and could lead to mitigation activities that help lessen the impact of future hazardous events. The survey is available until August 17.

Hampton Roads communities are jointly updating their Hazard Mitigation Plans and combining the documents adopted between 2011 and early 2015. The purpose of these plans is to identify and assess each community’s hazard risks and determine how to best minimize or manage those risks. Citizen participation is important during this process. Additional opportunities to review the draft plan and provide written feedback or to attend a public meeting will also be available.
