A newly constructed camp store and park office is

now open in Newport News Park. The 3,749 square foot, $1.1 million modern facility is significantly larger, and considerably more aesthetic, than the 1967 cinderblock “Campsite Office” it replaces. Located at the entrance to the campground at 13564 Jefferson Avenue, the inside of the facility includes a cedar ceiling and trim, making it a charming, “rustic” welcome center for campers and park patrons alike. In addition to serving as the new campsite office, the building also serves as the radio dispatch station for the City’s park rangers and the main reservation office for picnicking and camping.
The Camp Store is open seven days a week allowing park patrons to rent bicycles, picnic shelters, paddleboats, canoes, and fishing boats or to get park information about trails, programs and other offerings. The building also includes larger, fully accessible public restrooms, a laundry facility for campers, a concession area with hot food, cold drinks and ice cream, and a retail space for souvenirs, camping needs and a variety of outdoor accessories.
