Local Newport News organizations are coming together to

build a stronger, positive community. New Beech Grove Baptist Church in partnership with the Newport News Police Department, other city departments and the community, is holding the “InTouch Community Event and Basketball Tournament” on Friday, August 12 from 9 AM - 5 PM at the Denbigh Community Center, 15198 Warwick Boulevard. This event features entertainment, vendors, food, fun, and an exciting First Responder Basketball Tournament with teams from the Newport News Police Department, Hampton Police Division, and Newport News Sheriff’s Office. The event also features a community basketball tournament that is open to citizens ages 12 & up. The winner of the community tournament plays the winner of the First Responder Tournament in a final championship game.
The Newport News Police Department, Newport News Fire Department, the Newport News Sheriff’s Office, and Hampton Police Division is supplying equipment and providing information on employment opportunities, educational scholarships, and community outreach programs. Don’t miss the chance to meet officers from the K-9 Unit, see the Command Bus and Bearcat, and enjoy fun and games from the Police & Pals Trailers.
This event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Newport News Police Foundation, United Way of the Virginia Peninsula, Newport News Parks, Recreation and Tourism, and New Beech Grove Community Development Corporation.
