As a champion for Newport News and providing
opportunities for youth, Delegate Marcia Price is hosting the 2016 Teen Summer Leadership Academy. Throughout the summer, the youth have been involved in skill building classes, field trips to the Virginia State Capital to observe government in action, planning sessions for defining their futures, and community service projects. On Friday, July 22, youth participating in the Teen Summer Leadership Academy are spending the day with local law enforcement representatives for a Criminal Justice Day.
During the morning session, the youth will hear from experts in the criminal justice system including Newport News Sheriff Gabe Morgan, Courtney Warren from the office of Brian Moran, Virginia Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security, Hampton Commonwealth's Attorney Anton Bell, Newport News Police Department Captain Eric Randall, and Newport News Police Department Master Police Officer Donald Greathouse. Over lunch, the youth and officers from the Newport News Police Department and the Newport News Sheriff’s Office will participate in a
"Capri Sun with a Cop," providing the opportunity for the youth and the officers to mingle in a more informal setting.
“The positive experience and honest approach to direct questions from both youth and officers will provide a fruitful experience for all involved,” said Delegate Price.
