“Our goal is to expand our educational reach by supporting and partnering with organizations that share in our mission,” said ABC Education and Prevention Manager Katie Weaks. “We are committed to providing resources and programs that have long-lasting impact and encourage collaboration in the ongoing effort to reduce substance abuse issues for people of all ages across the commonwealth,” she said.

Human Services received $5,300 that will be used to reduce underage drinking through the CHEERS (Children Helping to Educate Everyone Regarding Social Drinking) project. The project will provide training to fifteen (15) high school students who will serve as peer leaders

The project will use Project Alert, an evidence based program, to connect youth in peer-to-peer education, create a social media campaign with Public Service Announcements, promote alcohol-free youth events. The project will conclude in a large event planned and hosted for youth by youth that will promote the reduction of underage and high risk drinking.

In addition, the project will include quarterly workshops educating professionals, community leaders, and parents about the dangers and legal ramifications of providing alcohol to youth also known as social providing/social hosting.
