Homes in the Warwick Lawns neighborhood are much

prettier thanks to the Newport News 2nd Annual Habitat Home Repair Blitz held in June. Approximately 150 volunteers from Habitat for Humanity, the City of Newport News and the Newport News Redevelopment Housing Authority used materials donated by the community and the United Way to repair the exterior of homes owned by residents who are low income and ages 62 years old or older, or disabled. The project helped to restore wheelchair ramps, rails, porches, outside paint, siding, landscaping, weatherization, and window repairs. Over the course of the day, the teams were able to assist 15 qualifying homeowners. The renovations, which were made possible by more than $7,000 in donated materials,

included new fences, decks, doors, exterior painting, debris removal and landscaping. In total, volunteers contributed more than 1,000 hours of service towards the Blitz.
