City Offices Close for Independence Day

Solid Waste Collections Delayed

Newport News City offices will be closed on Monday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. This includes City Hall, City offices at City Center at Oyster Point,flag_SC Newport News Waterworks' customer services offices, the Public Works Operations Center, and both locations of the Treasurer's Office and Commissioner of the Revenue's Office (City Hall and Denbigh).

In addition, all Newport News public libraries and the Newport News Recovery Operations Center (formerly the Residential Waste Drop-Off & Composting Facility, i.e., landfill) will be closed on Monday, July 4. All garbage, recycling, and bulk waste collections for the week will be delayed one day, i.e., Monday’s collections will take place on Tuesday, Tuesday’s on Wednesday, Wednesday’s on Thursday, and Thursday’s on Friday.
The Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter,
which serves the residents of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson and York County, will be closed on July 4th. NOTE: The shelter will still be open for owner surrenders, stray drop-offs, and owner re-claims from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
