Training for Master Food Volunteers Begins in Fall
The Newport News Virginia Cooperative Extension Office

is holding their Master Food Volunteer Training this fall! The classes are geared to individuals who love to cook, want to learn more about nutrition and wellness, enjoy volunteering, and want to make a difference in the community. The volunteers will work hand-in-hand with Virginia Cooperative Extension to educate and improve the nutrition and lifestyle of youth, adults, seniors, and families as they advocate for proper nutrition, physical activity, and healthy living.
Orientation is scheduled for August 25th from 10 AM - 12 PM and classes are held every Tuesday for five weeks from 9 AM – 3 PM beginning September 13th. Participants must attend all five classes for a total of 30 hours in order to complete training. All classes are held at the Newport News Virginia Cooperative Extension Office at 739 Thimble Shoals Blvd.

To apply for the Master Food Volunteer training complete an

There is a training fee of $105, and scholarships are available. The fee will cover background check, lunches, training materials, apron, name tag, and supplies.
The Master Food Volunteer training will include topics such

as: Basic Nutrition, Meal Planning, Cooking Techniques, Food Safety, Exercise and Healthy Lifestyle, Working with Diverse Audiences, with additional guest speakers from the Virginia Egg Council, The Culinary Institute,
and Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agents, as well as current Master Food Volunteers.
