Avoid identity theft by bringing papers with personal information to the Newport News Sheriff’s Office’s Shred Day this Saturday, June 18th. The free event happening from 10 AM to 1 PM at Todd Stadium is much different than previous Shred Day events because of its drive-through service. Volunteers from the Sheriff’s Office will assist in removing information-sensitive documents from the cars of residents and give them to Stealth Shredding to destroy on site. Stealth Shredding is a paper-shredding

service that is reviewed and monitored by the National Association for Information Destruction, which ensures that correct procedures are followed to keep all information destruction safe. This event is for residents only and businesses may not participate.
Residents should shred old and unused documents or mail that have their names, addresses, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, account information, and other less-sensitive information that could be used by an identity thief to impersonate them. These items include but are not limited to: credit card receipts, tax documents, mortgage documents, bank statements, financial documents, insurance documents, pay stubs, medical records, and anything that includes Social Security numbers, PINS, signatures, date of birth, etc. Learn more about the Shred Day event hosted by the Sheriff’s Office by visiting their
