Share your thoughts on the Newport News Transportation Center at a location and design public hearing 4pm-7pm, Tuesday, June 7th at the Denbigh Community Center, 15198 Warwick Boulevard. This state-of-the-art multimodal transportation facility will be built at 500 Bland Boulevard adjacent to the railroad tracks beside I-64. This location offers a more centralized location for travelers with easy access to the airport.
With a total project cost estimated at $41 million dollars, the center will have a modern design highlighted by a glass façade, the platform, building and parking facilities and will be built to handle up to four train sets into and out of the city per day. Features will include an Amtrak station, parking, walking trails, facilities for buses and taxis and an Amtrak maintenance facility. The project is funded by State InterCity Passenger Rail Operating Capital Funds through the Department of Rail and Public Transportation, as well as Federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality funds through the Federal Highway Administration and the Virginia Department of Transportation.
