What is Illegal Dumping and How Can it be Prevented?

Despite the actions of way too many people, it really is illegal to dump trash and debris on any property without consent of the property owner. This includes dumping debris on City right of ways, vacant lots, sidewalks and even in front of a neighbor’s house. The City of Newport News is asking residents to partner with them and battle the ongoing problem of illegal dumping in the community by opening up the lines of communication. 6-2 illegal dumping scaled

Call 311 or email StopIllegalDumping@nnva.gov to report sightings of illegal dumping. City residents who pay a Solid Waste user fee have the option to dispose of a variety of materials at the Recovery Operations Center, located at 550 Atkinson Way.
