Three students are one step closer to completing their education in tourism thanks to the Newport News Hospitality Association. During National Travel & Tourism Week, the students were awarded with $1,000 college scholarships and were recognized during the Tourism Appreciation Luncheon, held by the Newport News Tourism Development Office.

Scholarships were awarded to: Dominique Brown, a student at the Culinary Institute of Virginia who works as the morning cook at the Newport News Marriott at City Center and as a line cook at BJ's Brewhouse; Renee Lamury, a personal chef and student at the Culinary Institute of Virginia; and Antonio Sepulved, a shift supervisor with Donato's Pizza and business administration major at Thomas Nelson Community College.
The scholarships, given annually since 2008, are available to high school seniors who live and attend school in Newport News and plan a career in the travel and tourism industry. The competition is also open to those currently working in the Newport News hospitality industry while attending college. Next year’s scholarship application deadline is March 31 and will be awarded in May 2017. For more information contact Liz Parker, Newport News Hospitality Association president, at 757-272-5000 or
