The Newport News Department of Human Services is looking

to expand the number of people who are interested in becoming resource parents (formerly called foster care parents). During the month of April 2016, the City of Newport News had 109 children in foster care with 46% of those being youth 13 to 17 years old. Although the number is down from 126 children in foster care a year ago, the need for Resource Parents has not decreased.
The youth of the city need families who would be willing to provide a nurturing home to them as they venture to achieve their goals. These children come in all shapes, sizes and some have very special needs yet they want to play soccer, tumble in gymnastics, have play dates with classmates, go to prom, and plan for college just like any other child. All they need is a family to believe in them, commit to them and help them heal their hearts.
