Newport News Fire Department Lends Hampton a Helping Hand

Posted on May 18, 2016 at 11:09 AM by Communications Department

Recently the Hampton Fire Department started a Citizens’ Fire Academy similar to Newport News’. Last week, the Hampton Fire Department was scheduled to show5-19 NNFD Boat_SC their fireboat to the academy class, but due to unforeseen circumstances their boat was unavailable to display. With the history of mutual aid between the two departments and knowing that Newport News also has a fireboat, The Newport News Marine Incident Response Team was then requested by the Hampton Fire Department to bring their fireboat to Fort Monroe to help out our so the class could continue.

A Newport News crew happily showed up and provided the class of approximately 18 citizens with a show-and-tell of the fireboat. The class was also afforded the opportunity to use the 1½ inch hose to spray water from the boat, to work the fire control station towards the rear of the boat and to remotely control the large master nozzle mounted on top of the vessel.
