First steps taken to transform vacant building

As part of the Choice Neighborhood Initiative’s Critical Community Improvements, the first steps have been taken to help bring to realization a co-working/makerspace/ incubator in the Southeast Community. The site, located at 2506 Jefferson Avenue, is walkable for neighborhood residents, accessible to business partners and clients, and can be rehabilitated to meet program requirements. The vision is for this to be a space where current and future small business owners can go for technical assistance, business management workshops, and expert advice on various topics including business planning, industry research, accounting, and capital sources.
The Economic Development Authority (EDA) will solicit services from design/architectural firms to assist with space programming with the co-working end use in mind, while preserving the unique architecture of the building. Once the scope of the project has been determined, the EDA will contract for renovation and rehabilitation of the property.
This is an exciting time for the residents of and participants in the Choice Neighborhood Initiative. For more information about CNI visit the
