The same place you can report potholes and ask about trash collection is now taking calls for Newport News Animal Services, which provides animal control support for the cities of Newport News and Poquoson. Calls to the Animal Services phone number 595-PETS (7387) are now answered by a 311 Contact Center call taker. Residents can reach the Newport News 311 Center directly by dialing 311 within city limits or 933-2311 from outside of the city and speak to a live person anytime Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The center can also be reached via email at
311@nnva.gov.
Citizens can call 311 to report a stray dog, a lost pet or a dead animal on a city road. An animal control officer is on duty daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will respond to afterhours emergency requests. 311 can also help with information about pet licensing requirements, the best way to keep your pets safe during disasters, and other helpful tips.
