Newport News Public Libraries kicked off 2018 with events that helped you get creative , get organized, and get into shape. This month they are hosting a series of events for all ages that not only help you get creative, but teach the latest technology and celebrate culture.

Visit Grissom Library on Monday, February 12 at 10 a.m. to celebrate Mardi Gras. Open to all ages, this free event lets you use crafting supplies to create your own Mardi Gras mask. Have small children who are too young to participate in the Mardi Gras craft? Walk them over for the Wee Ones Story Time that Grissom  is hosting at 10:30 a.m. This is an interactive storytime for children ages birth through 23 months. It includes songs, books, rhymes, and play for a gentle introduction to the world of literature, and to stimulate the young mind. The experience gives babies and toddlers an opportunity to socialize and gives parents a time to share.

In this two-hour workshop, Learn to transform designs into 3D objects and qualify to use  the Ultimaker II 3D printer in the Creative Corner makerspace by attending this class.   Session topics include makerspace and 3D printer policies, a quick overview of Tinkercad and Thingiverse for 3D design and selection, machine safety, and basic operation of the 3D printer.  Registration is required. Have a preschooler? Bring them to Grissom Library or Main Street Library for Preschool Story time at 11:00 a.m. Children ages 3 to 5 have fun with engaging books, songs, and activities that build early literacy and help develop social and emotional skills in preparation for kindergarten.
