Chuck will also predict the Super Bowl LII winner on Sunday!

The Virginia Living Museum’s resident groundhog, Chesapeake Chuck, will make his eighth annual weather prediction on Friday, February 2 from 12 to 12:30 p.m. at the Museum’s outdoor amphitheater. Members of the Newport News Council and others will join WAVY-TV Meteorologist Jeremy Wheeler and VLM Curatorial Director George Mathews Jr. to form the “inner circle” assisting in the midday ceremony.
In the tradition of Punxsutawney Phil, Chesapeake Chuck will foretell the Hampton Roads forecast. Tradition says if the groundhog sees his shadow on February 2, we’ll have six more weeks of winter. No shadow indicates an early spring. The Virginia Living Museum groundhog is the official forecaster of weather in Hampton Roads.
Mathews said the groundhog prepares for his prognosticating duties with special exercise and diet – particularly corn on the cob, carrots, bananas and pecans. Chuck has been predicting the weather since 2011.
Chesapeake Chuck will also predict the winner of Super Bowl LII at a Super Saturday ceremony February 3 at 2pm at the Virginia Living Museum. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite team gear and cheer on their team while enjoying football themed activities.
Both predictions are included in general museum admission. The museum is located at 524 J. Clyde Morris Blvd.in Newport News. For more information visit the
