Recently, the Women’s Club of Newport News hosted a baby shower for families who participate in the Newport News Healthy Families Initiative and the CHIP of Newport News Home Visitation programs. Club President Susie Mowry, along with approximately 100 members, worked throughout the past year to raise funds to purchase baby items for new and expectant families in need. Items provided include diapers, clothes, and numerous beautiful hand-knitted hats, booties and blankets. The Women’s Club of Newport News along with the local women’s golf group the Cardinal Clippers Women’s Golf Association also provided 20 brand new Pack-N-Play cribs for newborns to help reduce cases of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) in Newport News and promote safe sleep environments for babies.
The Newport News Healthy Families Initiative and CHIP of Newport News have forged a long-standing program partnership with The Women’s Club of Newport News. Working with community organizations to serve and assist families is a priority for both organizations, and the dedication and support of the Women’s Club continues to make a difference in the lives of families in Newport News.
