College readiness program takes place Feb. 17

Newport News Public Schools and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity’s Zeta Lambda Education Foundation are collaborating to conduct a one-day program that encourages and prepares students to attend college. MegaGenesis is being hosted at Woodside High School, 13450 Woodside Lane on Saturday, February 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The free program is open to middle and high school students, parents, teachers, and youth group leader across Hampton Roads. The event features Rhodes Scholar and Season 4 winner of The Apprentice Dr. Randal D. Pinkett as the motivational keynote speaker. Students will also interact with college recruiters from several colleges and universities, community and corporate exhibits, and many career-oriented workshops conducted by professionals (e.g., doctors, engineers, etc.) A free lunch is provided to participants. Registration is required to attend the event.

Event organizers are also looking for college recruiters and distinguished alumni of prospective colleges to represent their respective institutions and speak to students from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information about the program and to register for the event, contact Program Coordinator, Gregory Dudley at mrdudley06@icloud.com or visit the NNPS website.
