Sister Cities of Newport News is helping deserving students pay for college. Each year Sister Cities awards a $1,000 scholarship to a local High School senior looking to pursue their education in International Affairs, Foreign Languages or the Foreign Service.
To apply, students must fill out an application and submit an essay of 750 words or less that addresses a series of questions on the application. To qualify, the applicant must be a senior student in good standing enrolled in a Newport News high school (public or private) with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and will attend a public, private college/university or community college in the fall of 2018. The application and the essay must be submitted by Thursday, March 1.
A check in the amount of the scholarship is written to the college or university the recipient attends and can be applied to tuition, fees, books, or room and board.
