Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) in partnership with the
cities of Hampton and Newport News will host three public workshops in May to study expanded public transit options for Peninsula residents. The meetings will kick off the Peninsula Corridor Study, which will identify potential alignments and a preferred transit mode for possible high capacity transit on the Peninsula. The workshops will give the public an opportunity to help identify a purpose and need for the project and what activity centers in the two cities they think should be connected, such as the Newport News shipyard or the Coliseum Central Business District.
The workshops will take place from 6 PM – 8 PM on the following dates and locations:
* Monday, May 16th – Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center, 2410 Wickham Ave., Newport News;
* Wednesday, May 18th – Hampton Roads Convention Center, 1610 Coliseum Dr., Hampton; and
* Thursday, May 19th – Denbigh Early Childhood Center. 15638 Warwick Blvd., Newport News.
To keep citizens informed and updated on the study, HRT has created a website
with a printable newsletter, timeline, and dates for public meetings, and questions or comments can be submitted to the Peninsula Corridor Study
